Box Elder Bug is a Hemipterous insect that feeds on the seeds of Manitoba Maple. If this maple is not in your vicinity you won’t experience them.
They typically are in the tree all summer long and in the fall they will congregate on structures to sun themselves and to use as an overwintering site under the siding, in the brick work, fascia and soffit, and attics.
I have noticed that the drier the season the more of them there will be(my observation only).
